Specializing in the Effects of Trauma & Interpersonal Relationships

Relationships

Building resilience versus anxiety can come through mindful observation of our thoughts, feelings, and emotions, as well as through fostering of self-compassion, and understanding and addressing any underlying reasons we may have elevated threat responses.

Some people may experience feelings of disconnection, have difficult existential questions, or negative views of themselves and the world. I use a holistic approach to depression that helps create meaningful change that considers clients' lived situations, beliefs, values, and past experiences.

Life is inherently interpersonal. Many of our difficulties are connected to our interactions and what we have learned to expect from ourselves and others. I use a psychodynamic approach in therapy that helps clients to make sense of specific relationships and the patterns they may experience across multiple relationships.

Trauma

Trauma is our mind and body's lasting response to extremely distressing experiences. Among many symptoms, it may result in overwhelming emotions, intrusive memories, profound feelings of shame and anger, or panic and anxiety. In addition to practicing at Unity, I also work at a clinic that specializes in therapy for survivors of sexual violence where I work with clients to heal and experience growth.

Moral Injury

One of my areas of study and specialization is trauma that is the result of intense moral struggles. My approach involves exploring with clients the meaning they derive from their traumatic experiences and discussing how their internal conflicts are the result of conflicts between human instincts, their own values, those of their community and society, and organizational and institutional responses.

About Me

I have a naturally calm demeanour, and a conversational therapy style. I believe my role involves creating a safe and accepting environment where clients find it easier to look more deeply into themselves and their situations.

My areas of focus include anxiety, self-worth, shame, complex relationship difficulties, and the effects of trauma. I work with adults and teens, and use a variety of therapeutic models such as time-limited dynamic psychotherapy, compassion focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, Adlerian psychotherapy, and three-phase trauma therapy.

I live in the Beverly community, have a Master of Counselling, and have been a therapist since 2023. I love gardening and nature, and believe in the positive benefits of both self-sustainability and being a part of a community.

Being comfortable with your therapist is the most important part of therapy because it creates a space where you can feel strong emotions, and think and say anything. Feel free to book a free 15-minute consultation with me to ask any questions you might have, or even just to get a feeling for what I am like.
